As many of you are aware, I accepted a position at our Corporate office and will no longer play an active role in Operations Personnel and Training. I may occasionally post something here if I find it relevant but the main author of this blog will be Mike Halliburton. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or feedback about any of the sites and programs we’ve initiated over the years, please contact him at michael.halliburton@kirbycorp.com or at my old number.

Post-Hurricane Update

Hope everyone made it through Hurricanes Ike and Gustav. For the last month, it seems like we have only been dealing with hurricanes! Hopefully, the season is coming to a close, and everyone can recover!

Kirby WIN update: Due to the storms, our techs were not able to have the new points-counter ready to go before the end of the month. This new feature will help you see how many points you have left to award at any given time, and if you pull the correct report, you will be able to see who you gave what points to.

On October 1st, I will upload our new eligible employees into the database. Remember, deck crews must be employed a full quarter before they are eligible.

During September, the website sent out membership renewal notifications on its own accord. This simply means that your log on name is up for renewal. I am currently working to get this resolved. Don’t worry; you are still part of the Kirby family

Don’t forget about our new calendar contest! Send your pictures to me now! The contest closes at 11:59 PM on October 15.

Kirby WIN program update

It’s been a long time since I wrote here, but it’s because we have been very busy working on the Kirby WIN recognition program. You will be receiving an email notification in the very near future, but I am having some problems with doing a mass-merge email, so please be patient with me!

Until you receive this information, please ask your captain about the program. Hopefully, you will have login information on Monday morning!

Our sites – A break down of what is available to you.

Kirby has four sites that you should frequent.

1. www.kirbycorp.com – This is Kirby Corporation’s site. It has investor information as well as access to the intranet which holds all the quality documents. It includes information about the different job divisions of Kirby.

2. www.kirbycrew.com – This is your email site. Your email addresss will be firstname.lastname@kirbycrew.com (ex. mine is lisa.nally@kirbycrew.com). Give this to co-workers, family, and friends to keep in touch with.

3. www.kirbycorpjobs.com or www.kirbycorpjobs.com/employees- This is the recruiting/employee site. This is a fun site. There are pictures, videos, and information for you. You can also RSVP for community outreaches, see calendars, and get information about work boots, USCG licensing, etc.

4. www.kirbycorptraining.com – This is the TMS System. It is a system that schedules, delivers, and tracks all courses offered throught Kirby Training Center. Please contact Jonathan Burson if you have questions.

This site is my blog that is like an technology guide for you. Refer back here for tips on how to use the site. You don’t have to use it, but it may be beneficial.

So what’s this all about?

Hey everyone, this is Lisa Nally over in the Vessel Personnel office. Glad you stopped by! I bet you’re wondering what this is all about anyway? We already have a website. Do we really need a blog too?

Short answer? Of course we do!

This is a place for me to give you hints about the website and the current technology we are using, but most importantly, it’s a place for feedback. That’s right; I want to hear what YOU think about the things we have posted online, the new company store, about problems you are having, and how great you think things are. It’s an open forum. And if you think this is a dumb idea, that’s okay, but let me know.

I hope to update this thing a couple of times a week.

For those who are not technologically savvy, a blog or ‘weblog’ is a website of chronological entries. Some are commentaries, some are diaries. This site will primarily be commentary on using our website, problems that need to be addressed for our website, email issues, and helpful hints. Think of it as a way to learn about the web if you aren’t currently in the Web 2.0 world.

Feel free to leave honest comments (but make them as nice as possible, please ) and I will definitely respond in later posts!
